Mukisa is a Congolese (DRC) visual artist based in Melbourne, working in oil, acrylic, and photography. Born to immigrant parents and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Mukisa relocated to Melbourne following high school, carrying with her a deep curiosity regarding her cultural heritage, lineage, and identity. Her practice focuses heavily on intimate portraiture of the people she knows and the diverse communities she belongs to. Growing up in Australia, she became interested in the gap between how African communities are represented and how they actually live; her work aims to close that gap.
